Peacehaven turned in another creditable
performance against Ryman League opposition, but
were again swept aside late on. Had there been a
bit more cutting edge for the home side the
result might have been different, but Pete
Edwards will have taken encouragement from the
majority of this match.
Stuart Clarke, Josh Heyburn and Aaron
MacMillan came into the starting line up against
a Hillians side not far from full strength. The
first half was quite an even affair, with
Peacehaven creating the better chances. Lee
Newman and Tom Levitt both spurned opportunities
after good approach play.
Burgess Hill took the lead just after half
time, as Lloyd Cotton slid a shot past Heyburn
from the edge of the box. Cotton added a second
from the penalty spot shortly afterwards, and a
third goal against a much changed defence put a
rather harsh complexion on the result.
Edwards will have been pleased to see how
many chances his side created, but will know
that they will need to sharpen up at both ends
of the pitch before next Saturday's opening
League game at East Grinstead.
Speaking on Sunday, Pete Edwards said he was
happy with how the Pre-Season has unfolded, and
the way the new signings have fitted in. "We've
played some good football, and haven't been
outplayed for long periods in any of the games.
Tuesday's game with Lewes will give us another
chance to sharpen up our play"
