took
control of the game from the outset, giving their
Combined Counties League opponents very little time
on the ball, and pushing forward at every
opportunity. After 15
minutes the first clear chance of the game produced
the first goal. Aaron MacMillan chased a through
ball down to the goal-line before putting in a
perfect cross for skipper Tom Levitt
(pictured above) who's header
scraped inside the post.
The goal seemed to lift Peacehaven
into a gear they've been unable to find so far this
season, and it wasn't long before they'd doubled
their lead. Aaron McMillan, turning in easily his
best performance since joining in pre-season, had
his shot parried by Ruggles in the Frimley goal, and
Tom Levitt was on hand to drive home his second
goal.
As half time approached, the game
was effectively put beyond Frimley. Aaron MacMillan
played in Matt Hill, who's marauding runs caused the
home side problems all afternoon, and Rob O'Toole
went for the resulting cross with the keeper. Ruggles' punch only went as far as Scott Marshall,
unmarked on the penalty spot, and he gratefully
fired into an unguarded net.
The second half brought about more
urgency from the home side, and torrential rain and
a thunderstorm to go with it. Just two minutes after
the restart though, Rob O'Toole's claim for a
penalty where waved away after he was seemingly up-ended by the
keeper, and 8 minutes later a header from the same
player crashed against the bar.
We had to wait 60 minutes until Frimley had their
first clear attempt on goal - which just about summed
up this match for them. Markham found himself in space just
outside the box, but his dipping shot just cleared
the bar. Five minutes later the scoring was
completed when Craig Hall took a short corner to Lee
Newman. His low cross outside the box found Jamie Cullinane (resolute in defence with Stuart Clarke
all game) who drove the ball through the mass of
players and firmly into the bottom corner.
The substitutions made saw the
introduction of two of Friday's new signings from
Worthing. Jack Reeder replaced Rob O'Toole and
looked strong and powerful in attack, whilst Dean
Gilmour (on for Lee Newman) looked comfortable in
midfield, and nearly provided Tom Levitt with his
hat-trick.
As the game neared its conclusion,
and the rain started to ease, Frimley almost grabbed
a consolation when Jones drove the ball hard
and low at the Peacehaven goal. Josh Heyburn was
equal to it though, and kept his clean sheet intact.
Pete Edwards was in buoyant mood
after the game, saying he was delighted with the way
everyone had applied themselves today, and that he
couldn't have asked for any more.
Frimley were left to lick their
wounds, whilst Peacehaven now go on to face Ashford
Town (Middlesex), at home, in the Preliminary Round.
