  AFC Uckfield  1  Peacehaven & T.  3

Peacehaven began their defence of the John O'Hara Cup with this hard fought victory. This was a typical cup tie with promotion chasing AFC Uckfield getting stuck into the holders, and Pete Edwards will have been pleased to see his side come through the challenge.

Peacehaven included two new signings, Tim Rivers and Jamie Crellin, both on loan from Lewes. Ryan Bradley started his first game for the club following his scoring debut last week. Uckfield manager Simon Rowland surprisingly decided to leave out the likes of Stafford Browne, Steve Davis and Andy McDowell, in a clear sign that the league is his main priority. He did however include Stuart Clarke and Scott Dartnell, both of whom started the season with Peacehaven.

It looked as though it was going to be a disastrous policy, as Peacehaven raced into a two goal lead within the first twelve minutes. They went ahead when Clive Snell played in Bradley, and when his shot came back off the bar, Ashley Rees was on hand to volley past Adam Laundon. Five minutes later Snell and Bradley combined again down the left, and the striker slid in his second goal in as many matches.

AFC were in danger of being swamped, but they were handed a lifeline when Adam Kneller conceded a penalty after bringing down Drew Greenall. Dartnell sent Joe Adams the wrong way, and, surprisingly, they were back in the match.

From then on it became a real scrap. Peacehaven had lost their early fluency, and were increasingly forced onto the back foot by the determained home side. They spurned a chance to level when Joe Miller met Lawrence Edwards free kick, but directed his header straight at Adams.

The pattern of play continued in the second half, with Peacehaven at times pinned inside their own half. Though Uckfield weren't creating many chances they were creating enough pressure to make an equaliser seem likely. Edwards was sufficently worried to introduce both Tom Levitt and Craig Bunch, who had been kept on the bench in case of emergency.

Peacehaven at last started to get some possession in the Uckfield half, and almost extended their lead when Bradley's first time shot was well stopped by Laundon.

Uckfield had by now started to run out of steam, and the match was all but ended as a contest when Peacehaven hit a third goal. Crellin, who had been the best player on the pitch, played a clever disguised pass to Scott Marshall, who applied a simple finish.

Peacehaven now go on to face Southwick (Away), in the 3rd Round.
