hoping for a turn of fortunes
today, and were able to welcome back Josh Heyburn,
Freddie Barker and Frank Cocozza into the side.
Despite having most of the early
possession, Peacehaven had to wait until the half
hour mark before their first serious effort on goal
when a shot by Dean Smith skimmed past the post.
Freddie Barker had a goal disallowed for pushing 5
minutes later and soon after beat the offside trap
only to be tackled by Chris Carter as he was about
to shoot. The resulting corner was flicked on by Tom
Stutters, and Connor Saunders saw his shot squeeze
past the post.
As we neared half time, Mile Oak
created their best chance of the half when a lob
from Bill Poulter dropped just over the bar. They
went close soon after the restart when the
influencial Eric Wedge-Bull's header produced a top
class save from Josh Heyburn.
From then on, the visitors seemed
happy to absorb the Peacehaven pressure and trying
to counter-attack. Despite the possession,
Peacehaven failed to create many clear chances, and
the game seemed to be heading for a goalless draw,
but with 10 minutes to go Matt Lago
(above) turned his defender near the
penalty spot, and fired low into the bottom corner.
Mile Oak won this Division last
season, and were the last side to beat the Under
18's in a League game, so it was a valuable 3
points. Peacehaven will certainly be looking to
create more urgency in the penalty area when they
visit Eastbourne Borough next week.
