That Peacehaven managed to come
from two goals behind away from home was
encouraging, but some of their defending was
alarming to say the least.
It had all started so well, with
Peacehaven taking the lead within the first ten
minutes. A slick counter attack started by the quick
thinking of Tom Levitt culminated in Ryan Bradley
crossing for Ashely Rees, whose well placed header
beat Ben O'Conner.
Minutes later Scott Marshall was
brought down by Steve Sneller, but Bradley's penalty
was well saved by O'Conner. That was the moment that
changed the match, as Peacehaven seemed to take an
age to recover from the miss - and Arundel were soon
back in the match.
From their next attack Joe Adams
misjudged the flight of Dave Burton's cross,
allowing Josh Biggs to nod home.
As so often the rumbustuous figure
of Scott Tipper was terrorising the Peacehaven
defence, and it was he who put Arundel ahead just
before the break, peeling off at the far post and
planting another header past Adams.
Tipper may have been using his
head to good effect, but Peacehaven had completely
lost theirs and they fell even further behind soon
after half time when Burton's free kick went
straight through an unconvincing wall to make it
3-1. Peacehaven were struggling badly, and were in
danger of being overwhelmed.
Terry Hall opted for radical
surgery, sending on all three substitues, and
playing with three strikers. It was a high risk
strategy but it paid off, although perhaps not in
the way he would have anticipated.
The arrival of Craig Bunch had
increased the pressure on a home defence who had
looked quite comfortable up to that point. A
trademark run into the box ended with him colliding
with O'Conner, and Peacehaven had their second
penalty of the day. This time it was substitute
Clive Snell on the spot, and he made no mistake to
get Peacehaven back in the match.
With time running out, and the
pressure on the Arundel goal increasing Bunch again
broke through, and O'Conner again brought him down,
this time with a clumsy two footed challenge. Clive
Snell kept his nerve from the spot, and struck home
an unlikely equaliser.
