Dean Smith and Frazer Massen where
both unavailable, but Joe Panther was back on the
bench after recovering from his recent injury.
On paper this was a good match,
with both sides heading their tables with unbeaten
records, and the first half reflected this. There
were few clear chances for either side it was no
surprise that the first half was goalless.
Peacehaven raised their pace after
the restart and started to make inroads into the
Borough defence but the key moment of the game came
with 17 minutes remaining. Borough's Chris Geer's
run took him through the Peacehaven defence and as
he approached the area Jimmy Thomson's tackle from
behind up-ended him. Thomson received a red card and
Borough (somewhat fortunately) scored from the
free-kick. Ashley Darby's effort cleared the wall
and was saved by Josh Heyburn, but then cruelly span
back into the goal.
A man down and a goal down,
Peacehaven had no option but to throw everything
into attack, and it nearly paid dividends. With 3
minutes remaining, substitute Steffan
Robinson-Webster's cross found it's way through a
maze of players in the area and Matt Lago's
close-range shot
produced a great reflex save from the Borough
keeper.
Within a minute though Borough had
put the game beyond doubt. Pushing forward had
obviously stretched the Peacehaven defence, and a
Borough cross from the right wing was nodded in by
the grateful Will Marsh.
Peacehaven probably won't face
opposition as tough as this again this campaign, but
they'll certainly be hoping that their early season
hunger for goals returns in the very near future.
