MILE OAK
U18's 1 PEACEHAVEN & T.
U18's 3
The Under 18's preserved their
lead at the top of their table with a hard earned 3
points at Mile Oak this morning.
Traditionally, this has always
been a tough game for Peacehaven. Mile Oak's 2-1
victory over them in the corresponding fixture in
April last season was their last defeat in a League
game, and that together with the 1-1 draw at
Piddinghoe Avenue ultimately cost Peacehaven last
years title.
There was some debate before the
game as to whether the pitch was playable, but after
inspection, the referee gave the go-ahead. Peacehaven
made two changes for today's starting line-up, with
Joe Panther making his first start since returning
from injury, and Dean Smith replacing Steffan
Robinson-Webster.
The home side took the lead early
on when confusion in the Peacehaven box led to a
shot being parried by Josh Heyburn and Mile Oak
scoring from the rebound. Peacehaven's best chance
of the half was an effort from Dean Smith which
narrowly went wide.
Two minutes after the break
Peacehaven levelled the game. Matt Lago was felled
in the box and Charlie Miles scored from the spot.
The weather worsened as the half progressed, and
slowly Peacehaven began to take control.
On the hour, Jim Thomson played in
Tom Tyler and his run took him past 2 players before
his shot found the top right hand corner.
The result was put beyond doubt 5
minutes from time when Jim Thomson's pass found
Charlie Miles and he crossed for substitute Steffan
Robinson-Webster to fire home his 6th goal of the
season.
It's a fixture Peacehaven are
pleased to put behind them, having laid to rest the
ghost of last season, and they go into next Sunday's
home game with Whitehawk (11.00 a.m.) with an
unbeaten League record.
