  SOUTHWICK  3  PEACEHAVEN & T.  2

Peacehaven lost their grip on the John O'Hara Cup after self destructing at Southwick. Despite taking a two goal lead they fell victim to a spirited comeback from the Division Two side, and were largely the authors of their own misfortune.

For half an hour Peacehaven were in total control, racing into a two goal lead, and set for serene progress. Then they lost their lead, and lost their goal threat as Craig Bunch was sent off in a totally unnecessary fashion and ultimately they lost the match. It was a turn of events which left manager Peter Edwards feeling "physically sick" and left most other observers feeling bemused.

Ryan Bradley and Conner Saunders had come into the starting line up in place of Matt Hill and Stacey Freeman, whilst Southwick included two former 'haven players in Stuart Garrod and Idriz Adedoja.

On a sticky pitch Peacehaven took the lead within the first two minutes, as Bunch drilled into the bottom corner. That lead was soon extended as Bunch produced a fantastic second goal, and his fifth in two games. Cutting in from the left he arrowed an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net.

Peacehaven should have been in cruise control, but from that point everything started to go wrong. Southwick pulled a goal back through Adedoja after a corner hadn't been dealt with convincingly, and astonishingly drew level through a fine volley from Sam Blundell.

A drama became a crisis before half time as Bunch was shown a straight red for an attempted head butt, becoming the second Peacehaven player to see red for the same offence in a week. His managers were less than impressed, especially as it left their side facing 45 minutes with ten men against a resurgent home side.

Southwick went for the kill in the second half, and put Peacehaven under huge pressure. The introduction of ex Lewes youngster Ryan Storrie added extra pace to their attack and at times Peacehaven were hanging on.

Ryan Bradley was struggling bravely at the other end, but he was desperately short of support, and you sensed that the tide was against Peacehaven.

So it proved as Southwick snatched the winner seven minutes from the end. A cross came in from the right and went all the way across to the far post where Scott Hunt applied a simple finish.

Peacehaven laid seige to the home side in injury time, but they were unable to find a way through, and made a desperately disappointing exit from the competition. Their frustration will only have deepened upon hearing that their opponents, at home in the Quarter-Finals, would have been Crawley Down.
