lively down the flanks against a
makeshift back 3 of Chris Barton, Aaron birch and
Sean Caffrey. The travellers then got a foothold in
the game and started to play flowing football that
they have shown through the season.
Ben Wheatland’s trademark 35 yard
free kick pulled a top draw save out of the Sidley
keeper, but soon after the home side were in front.
A free-kick midway into the Haven half was floated
into the box and it eventually fell to the Sidley
striker who gave Simon Parsons no chance. Whether it
was offside or not we will never know as only one
Linesman was available for the 1st Half.
Not letting their heads drop,
Peacehaven tried to play their way back into the
game and a shot by Sam Wells and two headers from
Chris Barton were showing signs of them breaking
through an increasingly nervous home defence - who
were having trouble dealing with the pace of Darren
Wall and the aerial presence of captain Michael
Page.
Ben Wheatland then hit another
trademark free-kick only to be denied by the Sidley
crossbar, but on 42 minutes the scores where
level after a brilliant piece of play. Sean Caffrey
went on a mazy run before knocking the ball onto
Darren Wall. His low cross which was cleverly
dummied by the lively Jake Powell and Sam Wells was
on hand to poke the ball home from inside the 6 yard
box.
Sidley were the livelier of the two
Teams after the break, and their substitutions began
to cause Peacehaven problems. On the hour mark the
ball was was ping-ponged through the midfield and
put harmlessly into the box but a failed clearance meant Sidley easily regained the lead,
converting from two yards out.
Peacehaven this time found it harder
to get back into the game, and Sidley were happy
with the ball being played around in front of them.
Then with 5 minutes remaining, the ball was played
down the left side to Darren Wall who put a teasing
into the box and it was directed home by Michael
Page. Heads lifted and in the last minute, Callum
Wiltshire's superb through ball found its way to
Jake Powell who's shot was well saved by the Sidley
keeper.
Tempers became frayed in extra time
and Sidley were soon back in front after a well
worked move produced a confident finish. In the 2nd
period Sean Caffrey was sent off for a 2nd Yellow,
and there was no way back for a tired Peacehaven
team. Sidley went to score a quick game-killer and
then completed the scoring with another tap in.
