The last time Peacehaven lost a
League game was at Three Bridges, way back in
September, and the draw stretches their unbeaten
League run to 7 matches.
Still without the suspended Craig
Bunch and Scott Marshall, and with Ryan Bradley
having to drop out at the last minute, Peacehaven
put their faith in a clutch of Under 18 players, all
of whom rose to the occasion, and the early signs
were encouraging.
After just 8 minutes Craig Hall, who
was finding lots of space as he pushed forward on
the right, put in an inviting cross which Rob
O'Toole connected with, and his looping header
deceived Killick in the Sidley goal and dropped
under the bar to give the visitors an early lead.
Kicking down the slope, Peacehaven
came out on top possession-wise in the first half
but were unable to add to the lead, despite some
sometimes frantic defending by the home side. Clive
Snell came close to making it 2-0 midway through the
first half after Harrison Cullinaine's deflected
shot ran into his path, but his powerful shot flew
over the bar.
The second half saw the advantage
shift to the home side who were now kicking down the
slope on an increasingly frozen surface. Despite
this, the first clear chance fell to the visitors
when Rob O'Toole played the ball through to Tom
Levitt on the edge of the 6 yard box, but his shot
was well saved by Killick. Sidley then had a chance
to equalise when a low cross found Matt Dadswell
near the penalty spot, but his effort squeezed past
the post.
It wasn't long before the scores were
level though, as an Andy Hales free-kick out on the
right wing was met by defender Leeroy Short who's
powerful header flew into the roof of the Peacehaven
net.
Chances were few and far between from
then on. Peacehaven's Adam Kneller hit the crossbar
with a header from a corner and Sidley always looked
dangerous on the break but, in truth, there was
little for either keeper to do for the last 20
minutes (apart from trying to stay warm !! )
So Peacehaven's unbeaten League run
continues, and with Craig Bunch and Scott Marshall
soon to return from suspension, Ashley Rees making
good progress in his return from injury, and with
both Andy Wilkinson and Paul Dudson soon to be
available after their return from America, a
creditable top half finish is still very much on the
cards.
