Peacehaven & T. Res.  1  Selsey Res.  0

Sat, 15th Jan, 2011.      Reserve Section (Premier)

A windy afternoon at Piddinghoe Avenue saw the Reserves pick up a long awaited and deserved win. It was a battling, gutsy performance and the relief was evident all around after the game, as recent similar efforts have all seen them finish empty-handed.

Michael Page strike grabs win.

Peacehaven set out to close down the opponents by crowding the midfield area. In the early stages, the ball was knocked round well in the centre midfield area consisting off Wiltshire, Wheatland and Powell.

Chances came and went for Peacehaven - Joe Spencer was unlucky when attempting to lob the onrushing Selsey keeper and Michael Page also came close with a lob.

The talking point of the first half was a massive penalty appeal which was waved on by the referee. A goal-bound shot appeared to strike a Selsey defenders hand, but the referee was unmoved and Peacehaven were unlucky not to be leading at the interval.

Playing against the wind second half, Darren Wall swapped to the left wing position and this proved to be a positive move as his pace started causing problems for the Sidley defence. The Selsey captain was keeping his side in the game with resolute defending but, on the hour, Peacehaven finally made their pressure count.

Good play out on the wing by Sam Wells led to the ball being "ping-ponged" around in the box before Michael Page's ferocious strike cannoned off both posts before crossing the line.

Peacehaven continued to deny Selsey the space they where looking for in midfield but as the clock ticked down, so they began to create chances. They came close when a well worked move down the left culminated in their forwards effort hitting the post, but Peacehaven held on and collected their second win of season, a victory which lifts them off the foot of the table.
