The match started well with the
visitors under constant pressure, but at a windy
Piddinghoe Avenue, the game struggled to pick up any
rhythm. Peacehaven had the better of the
first half having 9 corners to St Francis' 1. The
home keeper didn't really have a save to make until
Tom Pinnock broke away when our two centre halves
had gone up for a corner and would have broke the
deadlock but for a fine save by Josh Heyburn.
Jimmy Thomson then had a chace to
give Peacehaven the lead, but his lob over the
stranded keeper dropped the wrong side of the
upright.
The second half started with the
home side going close on a few ocasions before
substitute Steffan Robinson-Webster latched on to a
defensive error to smash home and score the goal
that decided the game.
St Francis then changed to three
up front and where starting to get the ball foward
quickly. Connor Saunders (only available due to his
Sussex Rep. game being postponed today) was solid in
the back line and held the team together as St
Francis pushed for an equaliser. Josh Heyburn was on
top of his game and had to make a couple of good
saves to protect the lead. The game was now end to
end, and Peacehaven were guilty of a couple of
glaring misses but did enough to hold on to the lead
and
protect their unbeaten run.
Not a classic by any means - but a
hard earned 3 points !!.
