Peacehaven &
Telscombe 3 Ringmer 1 |
 |
|
Tues,
18th
Jan, 2011. Sussex County
League, Division 1 |
Peacehaven continued
their climb up the table with a hard fought
victory over Ringmer. In a see-saw match they
dominated the first half before coming under
sustained pressure, only to hit on the counter
attack to claim the points.
Ringmer had been
boosted before the match with the signing of
Danny Davis from Whitehawk, although he wasn't
registered in time for the match. Peacehaven
brought Ashley Rees back into the starting line
up for the first time since their FA Vase match
at Beckenham.
Peacehaven took
control almost from the start, with Clive Snell
winning his personal duel with Dave Altendorff
in midfield, and controlling much of the play.
They took an early lead after a slick passing
move culminated in Rob O'Toole feeding Rees, who
side footed in his tenth goal of the season.
Ringmer were playing
a very high line in defence, and they were
caught out by Peacehaven's second goal. Snell
won the ball in midfield and strode through the
visiting defence, who parted obligingly and,
spotting Jake Buss off his line, he chipped over
his old team mate. It was the sort of move which
makes either the attacker or goalkeeper look
rather foolish, and fortunately for Snell his
confidence was well founded, and it was Buss who
was left with the red face.
Bradley, Rees and
O'Toole all had further chances in a half which
Peacehaven were completely dominating but, as at
Crowborough on Saturday, the tone of the match
changed after half time.
Ringmer knew they
were fortunate to still be in the contest, and
finally gained a foothold with a far more
attacking approach after the break. With both
wingers pushed forward they were at times
playing with four forwards, and they finally |

started to apply
some pressure.
Their positivity was
rewarded when Adam Mitchell struck home after
good work from Tim Johnson, and suddenly we had
a real contest. Peacehaven were getting
pushed further and further back, and were
relying on hitting on the break. Ringmer were
having a lot more of the ball, but struggling to
create chances, and were always vulnerable on
the break.
Eventually they over
committed and were caught out. Tom Levitt fed
Ryan Bradley, and he hit a first time shot past
Buss, and into the back of the net. That goal
proved decisive, and Peacehaven eventually
claimed a comfortable victory. |
