Ruthless in the league, toothless
in the cups - Peacehaven's curious season
continues!!. After a hugely disappointing cup
defeat at Rustington on Saturday they responded
with a stirring second half comeback to see off
St Francis. It was a victory clouded in
controversy, as the visitors were adamant that
Peacehaven's equaliser should not have been
allowed, but it would be hard to argue that the
result was anything but fair.
Peacehaven had given a debut to
youngster Tom Stutters, in place of Craig Hall,
and had welcomed back Joe Adams and Craig Bunch,
but it was the visitors who started best.
St Francis may be struggling at
the wrong end of the table, but they are never
an easy side to play, and so it proved on
Tuesday. After a lucky escape when Bunch's
fiercely hit shot had struck the bar, they took
an early lead. Pat Rose was too quick for Adam
Kneller, and despite Adams making a superb save
from his initial shot, Naim Rouane was on hand
to drill home the rebound. |

Peacehaven responded well, and
created a succession of chances in a first half
they increasingly dominated. Ashley Rees spurned
two opportunities, Bunch one and Scott Marshall
another, as the pressure grew.
The dam eventually broke in the
second half, and it was the moment upon which
the whole match turned. Rangers keeper Simon
Lehkyi was adamant that he had been impeded as
he attempted to reach Matt Hill's cross,
allowing Rees to steal in at the back post. The
referee was unmoved, and suddenly Peacehaven
were back in business.
They were now attacking with
three forwards, and the pressure on the visiting
goal was increasing all the time. They took the
lead when Rees stole in again and calmly side
footed past Lehkyi. St Francis responded with
good attacking play of their own, and were
unlucky to see Rose's powerful drive fly just
over the bar.
With an increasing emphasis on
attack they were leaving holes in their defence,
and they were eventually picked off. Bunch broke
through on the left and played in Ryan Bradley,
who struck home the decisive goal.
