MATCH FACTS BELOW
The Under 18's remain unbeaten in the
League, and have strengthened their position at the
top of the table, after a hard-earned 3-1 victory
against 2nd placed Southwick.
Neither side was willing to give any
ground in the early stages of this game, and only
one chance was created by either side within the
first 30 minutes. Matt Lago picked out Steffan
Robinson-Webster on the right wing, and after
beating his defender, saw his angled rasping drive
squeeze narrowly past the far post.
Peacehaven began to push forward
looking for the break-through, and the 7 minutes
either side of half-time proved to be decisive. On
38 minutes, a scuffed clearance span into the path
of Steffan Robinson-Webster who drilled the ball
into the roof of the net.
Two minutes later the lead was
increased when a Frazer Massen free-kick, way out
near the corner flag, found it's way through the 6
yard box and Joe Panther was on hand to fire in at
the far post (sparking a very curious goal
celebration !! )
Peacehaven were really starting to
impose themselves on the game now, and nearly made
it 3 before the break when a long range effort from
Steffan Robinson-Webster just cleared the bar. Just
seven minutes into the second half the game was
effectively put beyond Southwick when Charlie Miles
converted from close range following a goalmouth
mele.
To their credit, Southwick never gave
up fighting and soon restored some hope when a long
throw found Mitchell Rouse in the 6 yard box and he
controlled well before firing past Josh Heyburn.
There was still 30 minutes remaining, and you sensed
that another strike from Southwick within that time
could set up a very nervy finish. Some resolute work
by Charlie Miles in the second half gave Peacehaven
a lot of stability, and the pace of Barker and
Robinson-Webster continued to cause Southwick
problems.
As we neared the end, Matt Manento in
the Southwick goal produced a string of spectacular
saves to keep Peacehaven at bay, and right on
full time Southwick wasted a glorious close range
chance to decrease the deficit.
The win takes Peacehaven 10 points
clear at the top, with 9 games remaining.
