Haywards Hth T. Res  1  Peacehaven Res.  1

Sat 29th Jan, 2011.      Reserve Section Premier.

  Match details below

It was a frustrating day for the Reserves at a bitterly cold Hanbury Park as they came so close to securing a valuable 3 points - only to press the self-destruct button at the end of the game.

There where 2 changes from last weeks side, with Jon Miller and Joe Spencer replacing Callum Wiltshire and Ben Wheatland and the game saw Peacehaven have the majority of the possession but it was in the final third of the pitch that nothing really materialised.

Haven made a positive start, winning 50/50 tackles and keeping the ball well, but were rarely able to break down the Haywards Heath defence. Tom Stutters and debutant Jon Miller were holding the midfield well, whilst letting Powell roam and link up with Michael Page and Joe Spencer.

The only real chances of the first half where Jon Miller's two efforts from long range whilst at the other end, a powerful Haywards Heath header just went wide.

Simon Parsons produced a fine save early in the second half to keep Heath at bay, and chances fell to Michael Page and Jon Miller before Peacehaven finally made the breakthrough on the hour. Darren Wall's inswinging corner cause havoc in the home penalty area, and somehow found it's way through a muddle of players into the goal.

Haywards Heath threw everything forward after this, and Peacehaven had to defend resolutely to try and defend their lead. With barely a minute left, a corner was only half cleared and the resulting challenge from Jake Powell was deemed to warrant a penalty - which Heath gratefully converted.

The point lifts Peacehaven off the foot of the table and a result at home to East Preston this Saturday would put them firmly back in touch with the sides above them.
