Dulwich Hamlet U18s  2  Peacehaven U18's  3

Sunday 30th Jan, 2011.    John Ullman Cup, 2nd Round

  MATCH FACTS BELOW

The Under 18's progressed to the Quarter-Finals of the John Ullman Cup today with an impressive victory at last seasons winners Dulwich Hamlet.

Peacehaven made two changes to the line-up which had beaten Southwick on Thursday with Adam Harris and Steven Whelan replacing Charlie Miles and Frazer Massen and made their intentions clear from the start - forcing 4 corners in the opening 10 minutes.

Dulwich were struggling to cope with the visiting midfield, and Peacehaven took the lead on 20 minutes when Adam Harris and Freddie Barker combined to set up Steven Whelan who tapped in at the far post.

Peacehaven continued to force the game, and soon doubled their lead when Connor Saunders' pass found Whelan out wide and, after playing a 1-2 with Barker, his cross found Harrison Cullinane who smashed home his first goal for the Under 18's this season.

The goal forced Dulwich into a tactical change, and they were soon dictating the pace of the game. By half time they had reduced the deficit when Ashley Wright fired home and they took the initiative at the start of the 2nd half.

Peacehaven where now under severe pressure, and the home side drew level after the referee ruled that Jim Thomson's challenge on a Dulwich forward was a penalty - despite furious appeals from the visiting contingent that the incident occured at least a yard outside the area!! The referee was unmoved, and

Late goal from Matt Lago snatches Cup win.

substitute James Parkinson sent Josh Heyburn the wrong way to level the scores.

The goal seemed to kick-start Peacehaven and as we headed towards extra-time they began to dominate the game again. With just 4 minutes remaining the tie was settled when a Freddie Barker corner found substitute Matt Lago who gratefully fired home to take Peacehaven through to the next round - where they will meet either Thamesmead or Welling United (Away)

After the game Manager Shaun Saunders was full of praise for the performance saying "The lads can be proud of what they achieved today. It was a good win against a very good side"
