Pagham Res  1  Peacehaven & T. Res.  0

Sat 12th Feb, 2011.      Reserve Section Premier.

  Match details below

The Reserves made the long trip west to Pagham on Saturday, to take on a side who were sitting 3rd in the table and who had only been beaten once all season. Peacehaven, second from bottom, will have been encouraged by last weeks result, and made only one change from the side that had beaten East Preston with Josh Heyburn replacing the unavailable Simon Parsons in goal.

Peacehaven got off to the worst possible start when they found themselves a goal down after only 50 seconds. From their first corner, Pagham's Anders Wyatt found himself unmarked in the 6 yard box and gratefully converted from close range. An even first half developed into a midfield battle, with Pagham hitting the crossbar, and Peacehaven striving to open up the home defence.

The second half saw Peacehaven taking the game to Pagham and runs from Darren Wall and Joe Spencer started to show signs that there was a way back into the game. The Pagham keeper produced a great save from Jake Powell and a Tom Tyler free-kick agonisingly evaded the out stretched legs of Chris Barton and Aaron Birch before trickling marginally wide of the post.

Then came the talking point of the game - Joe Spencer played in Darren Wall who raced into the box and, despite being tripped and put off balance, still managed to get in a shot which was saved by the Keeper. The referee waved away furious appeals for a penalty, and Darren Wall was booked in the process. The incident seemed to take the wind out of Peacehaven's sails and they where left to reflect on what might have been.

It was a frustrating afternoon, but there where a lot of positives which they will be looking to build on when they visit bottom placed Wick this Satuday.
