Hailsham Town Res.  0  Peacehaven & T. Res.  1

Sat 5th March, 2011.      Reserve Section Premier.

  Match details below

The Reserves came into this game against Hailsham on Saturday on the back of a three week lay-off due to the typical Sussex weather.

With Darren wall ruled out for up to 8 weeks due to a long term injury, Matt Lago replaced him in attack with Joe Spencer, while Tom Stutters came into the midfield instead of Jon Miller. Meanwhile, Michael Page was able to name himself as substitute after his recent injury.

Some encouraging recent performances have seen the Reserves start to close the gap on the teams above them, and they started this match in positive form with a solid looking defence (despite not having a linesman in the first half!!).

Hailsham did create a couple of openings, but nothing to threaten Dan McDonnell who was making his return to the Peacehaven goal after a 4 month absence.

Peacehaven's best chance of the half fell to Matt Lago on the edge of the area who drilled narrowly wide of the post. A goalless first half saw the injured Joe

Spencer replaced by debutant Matt Nuttman, and Peacehaven where full of confidence at the break.

As the game progressed, the home side where having problems dealing with Matt Nuttman on the left wing, and you sensed a goal was on the cards. Peacehaven eventually got their reward from a corner on the hour mark. A clearance was intercepted by Callum Wiltshire who's pass found Tom Stutters on the edge of the box. His clever chip found Matt Lago who's shot was well saved by the Hailsham keeper, and two further shots were parried away before the ball fell back to Lago - who fired into the roof of the net.

Hailsham where never out of the game, and began to find space in wide areas as the game drew to a close. They nearly levelled when a looping cross was drilled narrowly wide, but some resolute defending kept the home side at bay, and Peacehaven held on to collect a deserved victory.

Caretaker Manager Michael Page was delighted with the performance saying "This was a massive result. We showed a lot of character and it was a good all-round display"
