MATCH FACTS BELOW
Peacehaven's unbeaten league run, which had
stretched to nearly six months, finally came to
an end on Tuesday night. It was something of a
shock result, against a side who are cut adrift
at the bottom of the table, and hardly the ideal
preparation for Saturday's crunch match at
Crawley Down.
Having fallen behind early on it took the Tye an
eternity to get going, and once they did they
were continually frustrated by a surprisingly
well organised home side. Having been
beaten by nine goals to one earlier in the
season at Piddinghoe Avenue Eastbourne had a
point to prove, and they came out clearly fired
up. Some of the visiting players appeared to
have their minds elsewhere, and they were caught
cold by an early goal.
James Bucket was allowed an unchallenged header
in the box, which he steered past Joe Adams.
Peacehaven were struggling to pass the ball on
an unco-operative pitch, and the goal had given
the home side a huge boost. They were playing
with tremendous energy, but Peacehaven were
playing into their |

hands as well. As frustration set in
they started to try to force a breakthrough, but
were met with a wall of white shirts.
A change of emphasis in the second
half saw Peacehaven finally start to build up some
pressure. They adopted a more direct approach, and
began to create chances. Ryan Bradley's fiercely
struck shot was well parried, and Adam Kneller put a
powerful header wide from a corner.
Bradley then had another attempt
scrambled off the goal line, and Clive Snell hit the
bar with a free kick. Peacehaven by now had the home
side pinned back and it appeared that a goal must
come. Yet the ball continually ran away from their
forwards, or a defender got in a last ditch block,
and time kept ticking away.
Despite playing with five forwards
at the end, Peacehaven were unable to break
down Eastbourne's resistance, and their unbeaten run
was finally at an end.
