East Preston Res.  1  Peacehaven & T. Res.  2

Sat 19th March, 2011.      Reserve Section Premier.

  Match details below

The Reserve's took a huge step towards their Premiership survival on Saturday, after coming back from a goal down and claim the points at East Preston.

With Darren Wall, Jack Loraine and Joe Spencer all injured, Under18’s Charlie Miles and fit-again Matt Nuttman came into the starting 11. Jon Miller returned to the bench and Steffen Robinson-Webster was included the squad.

Peacehaven started the game at a good tempo on the big East Preston pitch, and where using the wide areas with Matt Nuttman and Sam Wells producing crosses for Jake Powell and Matt Lago. The first good opportunity fell to Jake Powell who shot firmly at the keeper, and then Matt Nuttman headed over from a good corner.

East Preston, however, were using their physical side well and midway through the first half opened the scoring. They took a quick throw just in the Peacehaven half which found its way over to the striker, who ran into the area, squaring it for Shane Rapley who turned and found space and had his shot deflected into the

roof of the net.

Just as the first half looked to be heading East Preston's way, so Jake Powell was played through on goal. His first shot was parried by the keeper but he was quicker to the ball than the defender and managed to fire home the rebound.

The visitors started to take a foot-hold in the second half and weren’t letting East Preston play. They kept probing and their second goal came from the penalty spot courtesy of great play from Tom Stutters. He picked up a loose ball on the edge of the area and weaved himself into the box with great foot-work before being tripped by the defender. Matt Nuttman stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way from the spot.

This made East Preston’s heads drop and the game pace settled down until the seventy-fifth minute, when East Preston’s best chance to equalise went begging. Simon Parson's had to produce a top-class save to deny the home side and equaliser from a break-away.

The game petered out after this and Peacehaven held on to pick up a well deserved, and welcome, three points.
