Selsey Res.  1  Peacehaven & T. Res.  1

Sat 26th March, 2011.      Reserve Section Premier.

  Match details below

It's a long trip down to Selsey, and the early kick-off time meant the Reserves had to set off at 10.30 for this crucial match.

Only one defeat in their last 5 games had seen them claw themselves away from the foot of the table, and victory here would see them overtake their opponents and come out of the relegation zone for the first time this season.

There were 4 changes from the side which beat East Preston last week, with Jon Miller, Michael Page, Steven Whelan and Steffan Robinson-Webster replacing Sean Caffrey, Tom Stutters, Charlie Miles and Matt Lago.

Selsey took the initiative in the first half and were soon causing Peacehaven problems. They were using the width of their pitch well, and 3 chances were wasted before they took the lead in the 26th minute. A ball was played through the visiting defence, and the forward lobbed over Simon Parsons from inside the area.

The second half was a complete contrast to the first, with Peacehaven playing a much more controlled game. Chances fell to Steven Whelan and Steffan Robinson-Webster as they pressed forward looking for the equaliser.

They nearly went 2 behind after they were caught on the break, but the Selsey effort came back off the post. Shorlty after, Jake Powell nearly levelled the scores when his rasping drive from 30 yards seemed goal-bound but somehow sneaked past the post.

With the minutes ticking away, it seemed that it was going to be a frustrating afternoon for Peacehaven, but with 5 minutes remaining they finally made the break-through. Sam Wells cut in from the right wing, and his low shot squeezed under the keeper to give Peacehaven a deserved point.

They remain in 10th place, but with only 3 points separating them and the 3 sides above them, and with games in hand, they will be hoping the character and belief they've shown over the last 2 months will help see them through to a mid-table spot.
