Sun 27th Mar, 2011.    John Ullman Cup 3rd Round.

  MATCH FACTS BELOW

The Under 18's made an unfortunate exit from the John Ullman Cup at Thamesmead this morning, in a game between two well matched sides.

The stakes were high as the prize for the winners of this 3rd Round tie was a Semi-Final place in a competition who's Final is to be played at The Valley, Charlton.

Peacehaven were unlucky not to open the scoring after 10 minutes when a shot from Freddie Barker struck the bar, but 5 minutes later found themselves a goal down in bizarre circumstances.

A back pass from Jimmy Thomson somehow found its way past Josh Heyburn to give Thamesmead the lead.

Chances came and went for the visitors, the best before half time was a Freddie Barker shot on 30 minutes, but Thamesmead held on to their lead at the break.

A double substitution early in the second half saw Peacehaven increase the pressure on their hosts, but as the minutes went by their frustration grew, and Thamesmead held on for a slender victory.

There was some good news for Peacehaven after the game though, as they heard from Sussex that Shoreham had lost today, meaning they can't be caught at the top now, and are Youth Section (Central) Champions 2010-11. Peacehaven will play the Winners of the Eastern Section (Away) in a Play-off on April 28th, and the winners of that match will play the West Champions at Hassocks on 1st May to decide the over-all Champions.

After the game today Manager Shaun Saunders said he was happy with the performance saying "The lads showed great commitment and character - they never gave up. We just couldn't find a finish our build-up play deserved". On winning the title, he said, "They've been outstanding this season, and I'm very proud of the all - it's a great achievement "
