County League, Division 1. |
MATCH FACTS BELOW
It was all too easy for
Peacehaven as they claimed a third successive
win against troubled Chichester. Two goals were
enough to see off a side who are beset by off
field troubles, and still in danger of
relegation.
No
such troubles for Peacehaven, whose push for a
second place finish was boosted by defeats for
Three Bridges, Rye and Hassocks, with East
Grinsteads match being called off after a
violent incident. They should have won by more,
but as soon as they hit their second goal you
sensed the contest was over.
With
Clive Snell and Adam Kneller unavailable, there
were recalls for Tom Levitt and Conner Saunders.
Levitt began in midfield, alongside Scott
Marshall, the seventh different position he has
occupied this season!
Chichester have had a chaotic season,
exemplified by their decision to sack former
manager Mark Poulton at half time in a match at
Redhill earlier in the season. Adie Girdler, now
back in charge, brought a patchwork team who had
lost their previous ten matches. |

|
They almost took a shock lead within
minutes of the kick off as Joe Briggs ghosted in on
the left but, with the goal beckoning, he was unable
to find the target. At the
other end Craig Hall, in an unaccustomed attacking
position, blazed over. Craig Bunch was then unable
to find the target, but Peacehaven were starting to
get a grip on the match. They then took the lead
when Bunch slid in Rob O'Toole, who calmly slotted
past Derick Harding.
The first half was not a great
spectacle, but Chichester were causing Peacehaven
quite a lot of trouble, and it was tighter than one
might have expected.
The contest became increasingly
one sided in the second half, as Chichester became
pinned inside their own half. They were their own
worst enemies at times, as they seemed to be unable
to clear their lines, and continually presented
Peacehaven with possession in dangerous areas.
Ashley Rees should have extended
the lead, but shot straight at Harding, but the
second goal wasn't long in coming. O'Toole volleyed
in his second of the afternoon, and seventeenth of
the season, and from then on the contest was over.
The rest of the match was
conducted at training pace, and there was never any
suggestion that Chichester would get back into the
contest.
