Peacehaven & Telscombe  4  Wick  1

Sat 9th Apr, 2011.    Sussex County League, Division 1.

  Match details below

Wick have proved to be a thorn in Peacehaven's side this season. Having knocked them out of the RUR Cup in the winter, they also held them to a frustrating draw at Crabtree Park recently. On Saturday The Tye took revenge with a comprehensive victory.

After a tight opening Peacehaven took full control and emerged with a comfortable victory, their fifth against the West Sussex side in the last two seasons.

There was a goalkeeping crisis before the match, with Joe Adams unavailable and Josh Heyburn suspended. That meant a first appearance since May 2009 for Simon Parsons. In front of him Adam Kneller returned to the starting line up.

When Wick won at Piddinghoe Avenue in October, much of the damage was inflicted by George Gaskin, whose form earned him a move to Worthing. After a positive start he has recently fallen out of favour at Woodside Road, but he still represents one of the biggest threats in the County League, and Peacehaven

were all too well aware of that danger.

He wasted no time in making his presence felt, clattering into Parsons within minutes of the kick off, and making life uncomfortable for Adam Kneller and Connor Saunders.

At the other end it was Peacehaven who were creating chances. Maciej Kason made a fine save from Rob O'Toole's header and another good stop from Scott Marshall. Wick's Lee Bradshaw then saw a header scrambled off the line before Peacehaven opened the scoring.

Tom Levitt's cross from the right was met by a powerful header from O'Toole, which flew into the roof of the net. Within minutes O'Toole struck again, side footing home after good work from Craig Hall to take his tally to four goals in two games.

Parsons was having a relatively trouble free return to the side, and made a fine save to keep out Gaskin at the start of the second half and then Peacehaven extended their lead when Adam Kneller volleyed in after a scramble in the penalty area.

Wick gave themselves a lifeline when Rob Wimble latched onto a long ball from Kason and drilled a low shot past Parsons, but they never seriously threatened to get back into the game.

What little hope they had was extinguished when Scott Marshall slotted in Peacehaven's fourth goal from the edge of the box. The only black mark on a successful day for Peacehaven was the loss of Ashley Rees to a late injury.
