Wick Res.  0  Peacehaven & T. Res.  5

Sat 9th April, 2011.      Reserve Section Premier.

  Match details below

A convincing win in the Crabtree Park sunshine eased the Reserves relegation fears, and pulled them clear of the bottom 4 for the first time this season.

The only change to last weeks line-up was Dan McDonnell returning in goal to replace Simon Parsons who was on 1st Team duty.

Despite Wick's lowly position they made the brighter start, and nearly took the lead early on. Their forward was presented with a 1-on-1 chance, but elected to try and chip the towering figure of McDonnell in goal - much to the bewilderment of his team-mates.

Peacehaven began to settle and started to create chances. On 18 minutes they took the lead when Sam Wells took the ball into the box from the right wing and his measured pass was converted at the front post by Matt Lago.

The lead was doubled 6 minutes later in unusaul circumstances. Matt Nuttman

beat his defender and his cross into the area was drilled past his own keeper by a Wick defender.

Nuttman was also involved in the 3rd goal just after the half-hour. After being brought down on the edge of the box, Nuttman's freekick found the head of Jon Miller who's effort was parried out to Aaron Birch who gratefully nodded home his first goal of the season.

Despite the half-time scoreline, Wick had always looked dangerous - but Peacehaven were certainly in control after the break, and went further ahead after 68 minutes. Jon Miller's long ball found Matt Lago and his flighted pass was half-volleyed home by Michael Page to put the game well beyond Wick.

The scoring was completed 5 minutes from time in spectacular fashion. A trade-mark Tom Tyler freekick, 30 yards out, swerved into the corner to complete a miserable afternoon for the home side.

Mathematically, Peacehaven still require 3 points from the final 3 games to be certain of avoiding the drop (although 2, or even 1, will probably be good enough) - which is a remarkable achievement given their position a few months ago.
