with Wes Hallett making a good
save from Bradley, and at the other end Kneller
reacted quickly to scramble an effort from
Justin Gregory off the line.
Peacehaven thought they'd taken
the lead when Bradley headed in from Kneller's
cross, only to be denied by the linesman's view
that he had used his hand. Minutes later he
appeared to have been brought down by Hallett,
but no penalty was forthcoming, much to the
consternation of Peacehaven's management.
The suspicion that Peacehaven
might live to regret those decisions grew at the
start of the second half as Pagham began to
dominate. Ross Woolf and Scott Murfin were
proving increasingly threatening to the home
defence, and the pressure was growing.
At the other end a quick break
saw Rob O'Toole break clear, but with only
Hallett to beat he was unable to find a finish.
Aaron Gunn then narrowly missed with a fiercely
struck shot, and Simon Parsons made a good save
from an acrobatic effort from Murfin.
With the game in the balance
Peacehaven gambled, introducing Craig Bunch in
place of Snell and playing with two forwards in
an effort to stem the Pagham flow.
The gamble paid off when Bunch
chased after a long clearance and Hallett came
rushing out, misjudged the flight off the ball,
and ended up collecting the ball outside his
penalty area. The referee produced a red card,
and from the resultant free kick Kneller curled
an inch perfect shot past replacement keeper
James Misselbrook.
Pagham tried to push forward,
but Peacehaven's numerical advantage proved
crucial, and they held on to claim a crucial
victory. |
