Mile Oak Res.  4  Peacehaven & T. Res.  1

Sat 23rd April, 2011.      Reserve Section Premier.

  Match details below

The Reserve Team made the tough trip to Mile Oak on Saturday knowing that anything other than a defeat would give their relegation survival hopes a massive boost. It turned out to be a day everyone will quickly want to forget, but their hopes of avoiding the the drop remain as they face the final fixture.

Due to last minute withdrawals, a depleted side saw Sam Wells, Steven Whelan and Steffan Robinson-Webster replace Callum Wiltshire, Jake Powell and Freddie Barker from last weeks side that faced Pagham. Simon Parsons returned in goal in place of the unavailable Dan McDonnell.

The home side, which included a number of 1st Team players who had just played in the game against Little Common, where on top from the start and went close when a long ball cleared the Peacehaven defence, but they were unable to finish.

Peacehaven started to find their feet midway through the half, and Michael Page

went close with a shot which narrowly missed, Matt Nuttman saw an effort scrape over the bar and Sam Wells looked certain to score when set free, only to see his shot saved by the home keeper.

The visitors were soon to be regretting their missed chances when a long drop-kick found it's way over the Peacehaven defence, and the striker went round Simon Parsons before steering home.

Only being one goal behind at the break, there was still some hope for Peacehaven, but with no subsititutes available, the soaring temperature soon took it's toll.

Mile Oak extended their lead when a cross was easily converted from close range, and put the game beyond Peacehaven with a similarly worked goal soon after.

A forth goal near the end completed a miserable afternoon for Peacehaven, although there was still time for a consolation. With time running out, a Tom Tyler corner was met by Jon Miller on the back post, who rifled home to claim his first goal for Peacehaven.

Hailsham's win at St Francis means that they are now safe, and it all comes down to the last game. St Francis, level on points with Peacehaven play Champions, Eastbourne Town, on Tuesday evening. The result of that game will determine exactly what Peacehaven need from their last game of the season with Hassocks next Saturday.
