Peacehaven & T.  0  Eastbourne Borough  4

Tues 12th July, 2011.    Pre-Season Friendly.

Infront of their impressive "new look" surroundings at Piddinghoe Avenue, and a respectable size crowd, Peacehaven started their Pre-Season campaign the hard way on Tuesday night.

With Eastbourne Borough facing Brighton & H.A. in the Senior Cup Final on Saturday, this was always going to be a big ask, and so it proved.

The result wasn't close, but there were plenty of positives to be taken from the evening for Pete Edwards. He used twenty four players, and with rumours of others still to come it is clear that competition for places will be fierce this campaign.

The only new face in the starting line up was David Altendorff, late of Ringmer and a long term target of Edwards. There was also a first appearance for nearly two years for the injury plagued Carl Dunk.

Borough were almost at full strength but at first the match was quite even. The mid afternoon downpour had slicked up the surface and the match got off to a lively start.

Eastbourne went in front when some defensive rustiness let in Steve Brinkhurst. Peacehaven had the chance to equalise when Gary Charman, surprisingly deployed at centre-back, brought down Ashley Rees, but Adam Kneller's penalty failed to trouble the net.

Minutes later Brinkhurst added a second, and when Ian Pulman's shot was deflected in just before the break the match was over as a contest.

There were a number of new faces in the second half. Jake Buss made a welcome return in goal, Ben and Sol Bowra lined up in defence and old favourites Andy Wilkinson and Paul Dudson, both on holiday from American scholorships, entered the action.

Eastbourne added a fourth goal through Sam Cole, and had several opportunities to add to their score, but Buss made a number of fine saves to keep the scoreline down.

There was some good passing and movement from Peacehaven, who were unfortunate not to claim a goal to go with some good approach play. Overall Pete Edwards will probably have been pleased with the night, despite the score.

Peacehaven:-  Coleman (Buss), Hall (B Bowra), Hill (Wiltshire), Kneller (S Bowra), Gunn (Saunders), Marshall (Snell), Dunk (Wilkinson), Altendorff (Loraine), Rees (Bunch), Bradley (Levitt), O'Toole (Dudson)
