Peacehaven & T.  1  Burgess Hill Town  1

Friday 15th July, 2011.    Pre-Season Friendly.

Peacehaven's second Pre-Season outing was another encouraging affair. Pete Edwards side more than matched Ryman League Hillians, and should probably have claimed a victory. That they didn't will probably not overly concern Edwards, whose squad looks more formidable by the week.

The big news on that front came before kick off, with Wes Millis arriving at the ground to re-sign from Crawley Down. Millis' power and drive was badly missed last season, and his return will be a huge boost to the team.

The starting line up showed seven changes from the side which had started against Eastbourne Borough, with another new signing, Owen Callaghan coming into the team. Burgess Hill have lost most of their big hitters from last season, and included ex Peacehaven youngster Freddie Barker on the bench.

It's now a generation since these two clubs were daggers drawn in the mid nineties, and the good relationship between the two clubs was reflected in another healthy attendence.

Peacehaven looked the more assured side in the early stages, with the ball being passed around quickly and intelligently. With a squad of at least twenty

no one can take their place for granted, and that is making these matches all the more important.
Peacehaven took the lead midway through the first half when Tom Levitt cleverly fed Callaghan who in turn played in Craig Bunch for a simple finish.

Burgess Hill equalised before the break, and the match became increasingly open in the second half as the inevitable surge of substitutions started. Burgess Hill had the best opportunity to claim a win when Barker broke clear, but he was unable to claim the goal he must have been yearning for against his former club.

At the other end Ryan Bradley and Craig Hall both went close. The contest petered out rather towards the end, but it had been an encouraging performance overall.

The focus now switches back to training for a week, before what should be another intriguing contest against local rivals Whitehawk.

Peacehaven:-  Buss, B Bowra (Hall), Kneller (S Bowra), Saunders (Gunn), Hill, Callaghan (Dunk), Snell (Altendorff), Marshall (Dudson), O'Toole, Bunch, Levitt (Bradley)
