Peacehaven & T. Res  3  Sidley United Res.  1

Friday 2nd Sept, 2011.     Reserve Section (Premier)

After a frustrating opening two games, the Reserves put in a commanding second half performance against Sidley on Friday evening, giving them a victory which hoists them into a mid-table position.

There were 7 changes to the side which had lost to St Francis the previous week, which included the absence of skipper Callum Wiltshire who is suspended for 6 weeks.

Depsite Peacehaven having the better of the early exchanges it was the visitors who took the lead after 15 minutes. Mark Funnell ran on to a through ball and calmly chipped the oncoming Simon Parsons to put the visitors ahead.

Two minutes later Zac Cungerford's shot crashed against the Peacehaven bar, but after that the home side started to take charge of the game and were soon creating chances. The Sidley defence were having trouble containing Matt Lago, and Tom Tyler's long range effort 5 minutes from the break produced a good save from George Aston.

The scores were almost levelled in the first minute after the break when Matt Nuttman's effort hit the woodwork, but 2 minutes later they were back in the

match. Robertas Kupetis ran on to a through ball and slotted the ball past Aston for his first goal for the Club.

Within 5 minutes Peacehaven where in front when Matt Lago's pass found Kupetis who chipped the ball over Aston to make it 2-1.

Sidley started to raise them game for a while after this and the home defence stood firm against a flurry of corners but, as the half wore on, so the visitors seemed to run out of pace - and ideas.

Peacehaven exploited this to the full, and Matt Nuttman was continually causing them problems out on the left wing. Jake Powell was unlucky not to score on 75 minutes when he ran onto a Michael Page pass, only to see his shot skim past the post.

With full time approaching it was Page who went close when he met Chris Barton's searching free kick, and his effort crashed against the bar.

Then, with the fog which had descended on Piddinghoe Avenue getting thicker, and the referee preparing to blow for full time, Robertas Kupetis ran on to a loose ball just outside the Sidley area, and drilled the ball into the bottom corner to complete his hat-trick.

Manager Simeon Vam Varapis was in a bouyant mood after the game saying "Everyone can feel proud of their performance tonight, it was a real team effort. Their heads didn't drop when we went behind, and everyone gave 100%. Of course, Robertas gets M.O.M. for his hat-trick - but if he hadn't have got it, it would be a tough call. There were some great performances tonight"
