Sittingbourne  2  Peacehaven & T.  1

Saturday 3rd Sept, 2011.     FA Cup Preliminary Rnd

The FA Cup draw hadn't been kind to Peacehaven this season. An away victory at Westfield had seen them rewarded with a trip to Sittingbourne, and another away fixture awaited the winners of this tie.

Following Pete Edwards' recent departure, Nigel Nash took charge for the first time today and, although Terry Hall is unable to commit himself to any permanent position within the Club, he was able to take up position along side the new boss as Peacehaven endeavoured to overcome their Ryman League opponents.

Craig Bunch, Connor Saunders, Aaron Gunn and Rob O'Toole were all either unavailable or injured, which meant a first start of the season for Sol Bowra, Scott Marshall and Owen Callaghan, whilst Tom Levitt returned to the bench along side Dave Altendorff who was returning from injury.

In soaring temperatures, and on a dry, bumpy pitch, Peacehaven got off to a dream start, scoring with their first meaningful attack. Matt Hill's long searching ball into the box produced a misguided header from Nnamani which fell to the feet of Owen Callaghan on the edge of the box, and he held his nerve to slot the ball past Roberts in the home goal.

As the half unfolded, so the home side began to take more possesion, and

almost levelled when a defensive mix-up on the edge of the Peacehaven area let in Ryan Golding, but his shot was cleared off the line by Matt Hill.

Five minutes later though Carl Harrold's cross from out on the right wing found it's way through to Billy Manners on the far post, who rifled his shot into the bottom corner.

Peacehaven always looked capable of scoring when they came forward, and there were some nervy moments for the home defence - none more so than when Carl Dunk's pass found Ashley Rees on the edge of the box, and his fierce shot grazed the upright as Roberts was beaten.

Jake Buss produced an acrobatic save 5 minutes from the break to keep out a Jamie Coyle header, and the visitors will have been happy with the half time scoreline, especially given the unpredictable surface.

It was that which seemed to play a huge part in the events of the second half. Sittingbourne had a lot of possesion, but most of their attacks were ariel, and Adam Kneller and Jake Buss were dealing with them comfortably. Peacehaven's attacks were few and far between but, as the clocked ticked down and a replay was almost seeming a certainty, it didn't seem to matter

With 2 minutes remaining, Craig Hall produced a last ditch tackle to keep out Manners, but as injury time approached, so disaster struck. A succession of throw-ins had seen Sittingbourne edge their way down to the Peacehaven area, and then a low cross was drilled into the 6 yard box where substitute Josh West crashed home the winner.

It wasn't a pretty game to watch, but Peacehaven's work-rate was unquestionable, and they'll feel they deserved a replay for that. However, it's Sittingbourne who now go on to face Bognor Reis who beat Camberley 5-1 this afternoon.
