Hassocks Res.  3  Peacehaven & T. Res.  2

Fri 23rd Sept, 2011.       Reserve Section (Premier)

  Match details below

A last minute "wonder-strike" snatched a point away from Peacehaven Reserves at The Beacon on Friday evening.

There were two changes to Saturday's line-up at Sompting, with Chris Barton and Sean Caffrey replacing Liam Caffrey and Josh Pollard, but Peacehaven found themselves a goal behind before they had a chance to settle.

In the second minute of the game Lawrence Robinson found himself through on goal, and he calmly chipped the ball over Simon Parsons to give Hassocks an early lead.

They had a chance to increase their lead on 15 minutes when a goalmouth scramble saw two close range efforts blocked in the 6 yard box, but it was soon Peacehaven who were applying the pressure.

Midway through the half, Luke Hamon and Michael Page combined to set up Sean Caffrey, but his shot went narrowly wide. Within 2 minutes the scores were level though when a poor clearnace fell to Caffrey, and he drilled the ball home from outside the box.

Peacehaven then took the lead 5 minutes from the break when a high through ball from Aaron Birch was nodded on by Michael Page, and Robert Kupetis fired home his 5th goal of the season.

Any hopes of a half-time lead where soon extinguished though as Hassocks equalised within 2 minutes. Robinson's pace took him into the box and Simon Parsons' clattering challenge earned him a yellow card, and Hassocks a penalty, which Danny Geard duly fired into the bottom corner.

Peacehaven started the second half in positive fashion and nearly went back in front shortly after the restart. Robert Kupetis's hard drive from a free kick found it's way around the wall, but the Hassocks keeper did well to tip the ball around the post.

Sadly, that was to be Peacehaven's only direct chance of the half, as most of their approach work seemed to break down around the box, and Hassocks were always keen to mount swift attacks.

Simon Parsons went on to produce three outstanding saves from  Robinson efforts and, as we approached the final minute, it seemed that Peacehaven had claimed a valuable point - but it wasn't to be. A long ball from the right wing found Lee Darbyshire on the left corner of the area, and his first time strike rocketed across the box, and into the far corner.

It was a bitter pill for Peacehaven to swallow, and their 4th defeat by an odd goal (3 of which have seen them concede in the final minute). They'll be hoping for a change of fortune now as they embark on three Cup games in as many weeks.
