Peacehaven & Telscombe  3  Loxwood  0

Sat 24th Sept, 2011.    John O'Hara League Cup 2nd Rnd

  Match Details Below

After two management resignations in a month, the dust finally seems to be settling at Piddinghoe Avenue after Caretaker-Manager Shaun Saunders' acceptance of the job on Thursday, and a third win in 7 days to go with it.

With Scott Marshall, Tom Levitt, Rob O'Toole, Ashley Rees and Wes Millis all unavailable, it meant a return for Sol Bowra, and full debuts for Dave Altendorff and Matt Nuttman.

Peacehaven went close with their first attack of the game when Carl Dunk's ball across the area found Craig Bunch who's shot scraped past the post - and it was that combination that would go on to punish Loxwood later in the game.

In the meantime, the visitors were playing football which made nonsense of their lowly position in Division 2. Midway through the half Damon Aston beat the home offside trap, and his rasping shot produced a great save from Jake Buss.

Within five minutes everyone in the ground thought that Loxwood had taken an unlikely lead when Aston again broke free. His first shot was blocked by Buss but,

with the keeper on the ground, he fired the rebound towards an unguarded net, only to see Matt Hill scramble back to clear off the line.

Peacehaven began to take control of the game as the half wore on, and were finally rewarded on 38 minutes. Craig Bunch outpaced the away defence and pulled the ball across to Carl Dunk who fired home from 10 yards.

Any hope Loxwood had of mounting of a second half comeback was made even harder within minutes of the restart. A delightful chip over the defence by Carl Dunk fell perfectly for Craig Bunch, and he slotted home past Sam Smith in the away goal.

With nothing to lose, Loxwood changed their shape and threw men forward. The home defence had to be at it's best to combat the chances they were creating - the most notable of which fell to Ben Bissett who fired wide from close range.

Peacehaven's pace was always the key factor in this match though, and both Carl Dunk and Matt Nuttman had chances to increase the tally before the scoring was completed in injury time. Substitute Steffen Robinson-Webster was felled in the area, and Craig Bunch's well placed penalty wrapped up a comfortable afternoon for The Tye.

After the game, boss Shaun Saunders commented, "It was a well balanced performance today, and I'm pleased for the lads who came into the side and adapted to our style straight away."

Peacehaven's reward for today's victory is a trip to Littlehampton Town in the 3rd Round.
