Peacehaven & T.  1  Arundel  3

Wed 12th Oct, 2011.    Sussex County League Division 1

  Match Details Below

To put it bluntly Peacehaven "had one" as they fell to a shock defeat to bottom of the table Arundel. Just about everything that could go wrong did go wrong on a night that they will want to forget as soon as possible.

Despite dominating the first half they somehow contrived to go in two goals behind at half time, and from then on the match descended into farce. It was a huge boost for Arundel, who had only one point going into the match, and is a big knock back for 'Haven after some encouraging recent results.
Jake Buss, Dan Smith and Matt Nuttman had come into the starting line up and Peacehaven made an encouraging start, with Smith and Ashley Rees both going close.

Arundel fired an early warning shot, when Howard Neighbours shot was scrambled away, and it was he who gave the visitors an early lead.
Scott Tipper always seems to cause Peacehaven problems, and his header set up Neighbour for a well placed opening goal.

Peacehaven continued to dominate posession, but they were overelaborate in their play, and struggled to turn their posession into clear cut chances. They were

hit with a sucker punch just before the break, as a corner was allowed to bisect the penalty area, allowing Dave Walker to apply a simple finish.

It was set up for a second half comeback by Peacehaven, but it never materialised. They huffed and puffed but never really looked like blowing the Arundel house down. An element of farce entered into proceedings when Owen Callaghan was denied an appearance as a substitute, as his name had been put on the team sheet as Owen Hill, once of Peacehaven, but not recently and certainly not this season. The referee was adamant that Callaghan's name wasn't down and he wasn't coming in, so Rob O'Toole had to come on instead. It was somewhat pedantic by the official but was hardly impressive for Peacehaven to make such an elementary mistake with their paperwork.

Arundel then extended their lead, with Scott Tipper tapping home after Buss was unable to convincingly clear a free kick. The misery was complete for Peacehaven when Rees collected two yellow cards in ten seconds and was sent off.

Peacehaven did pull a goal back through a long range effort from O'Toole but it was too little too late, and Arundel were able to celebrate their first win of the season.

Peacehaven will now have to go back to the drawing board ahead of Saturday's visit from Redhill
