Ringmer  1  Peacehaven & T.  2

Tues 18th Oct, 2011.   Sussex County League, Division 1

  Match details below

Peacehaven's title bid received a massive boost on Tuesday evening as they maintained their unbeaten away League record with a well earned 3 points at The Caburn. Ringmer have a dreadful record against Peacehaven recently and this was to be their 8th consecutive defeat in all competitions over the last 3 seasons.

There was only one change from the Peacehaven side which drew with Redhill at the weekend, with Carl Dunk returning from injury to replace Kane Louis, whilst Clive Snell made his first start for Ringmer since leaving Piddinghoe Avenue last month.

Both keepers were called into action early in the game with Tom Rand saving well from Callaghan and Jake Buss keeping out a Mark Price effort before Peacehaven went agonisingly close after 20 minutes. Matt Hill and Dan Smith combined well down the left before Smith's angled shot somehow evaded Tom Rand, the onrushing forwards and the far post - but it wasn't long before Peacehaven were in front.

Some quick thinking from Carl Dunk saw him play a hastily taken free kick

through the home defence to Ryan Bradley who chipped the ball perfectly over Rand to open the scoring.

The lead was only to last 5 minutes though. With Ringmer pushing forward, an unconvincing clearance was picked up by Clive Snell who raced through on the 'Haven goal, and delighted in firing past Jake Buss to give him his first goal for his new Club.

Ringmer had been using an effective off-side trap, but with half time approaching, it was finally beaten. Owen Callaghan was set free down the right wing, and he cut into the area before setting up Ryan Bradley for his second of the game.

For the opening 20 minutes of the second half Peacehaven, now kicking down the Caburn slope, seemed happy to absorb the home attacks and hit Ringmer on the break. As the half wore on, so Ringmer began to run out of steam, and ideas, and Peacehaven took control for the last quarter of the game. They created a succession of chances, with Ashley Rees and Wes Millis both going close to scoring before Rands made an acrobatic save from Rob O'Toole in the dying minutes.

They were unable to find the goal which would have put the result beyond doubt though, and there was nearly a sting in the tail as the game headed into injury time. Marc Whiteman broke free from the 'Haven defence and Jake Buss made a crucial save to ensure the three points.
