Tues 8th Nov,
2011. Sussex
County League Division 1. |
Match details below
After Saturday's defeat at home to Horsham YMCA,
any fears Peacehaven may have had that their
push for a top 2 spot was starting to falter
where put firmly behind them with a resounding
victory at East Court.
East Grinstead hasn't been a
happy hunting ground for Peacehaven in recent
times, indeed their last League win there was 17
years ago, but that counted for nothing as The
Tye were rampant, and notched up their highest
away League win since beating Crowborough 8-1 at
The Alderbrook in 1995.
There have been a lot of changes
at East Grinstead recently, and their starting
line-up only included one player from the 1-1
draw at Piddinghoe Avenue last month. Meanwhile,
Peacehaven made two changes to Saturday's
line-up, with Joe Adams making his first
appearance in goal this season, and Ashley Rees
replacing Matt Fleming.
Peacehaven made an ideal start,
taking the lead on 10 minutes when Joe Adams
long kick made its way through to Rees, and he
lobbed the ball over Mark Fox in the home goal
to open the scoring. |

The lead was added to on the half
hour when Adam Kneller volleyed home from 18
yards, and on the stroke of half time Peacehaven,
who were dictating the pace of the game, hit a
third when Rob O'Toole drove firmly past the
helpless Fox. There were
signs of revival from the home side after the
break when Gavin Gordon's header was cleared off
the line by Matt Hill, but any faint hopes they
had of a come-back where stamped out soon after.
Ashley Rees' shot was parried by Fox, and Ryan
Bradley fired home to increase the lead.
There was still 30 minutes on
the clock, and the game was as good as over, so
the last thing a ravaged home defence wanted to
see was Peacehaven's new 6' 3" signing, Jamal
Fenelon, joining the action, and a fifth goal
was soon added when Rees volleyed home his
second of the evening. With time running out, he
nearly hit his hat-trick, only to see his shot
saved by Fox and Owen Callaghan followed in to
make it six.
Grinstead nearly grabbed a
consolation when Ryan Watts' free-kick went
close but Peacehaven were to save their best
until last. Rob O'Toole gained possession just
inside the Grinstead half and his long, looping
shot cleared Fox to complete a miserable night
for the home contingent.
For Peacehaven, the amazing
away run goes on. It's now 17 League games
without defeat, and the last Sussex side to beat
them on their travels where Eastbourne United,
way back in March ! |
