Peacehaven & T.  2  Chichester City  1

Sat 26th Nov, 2011.    Sussex County League Division 1

  Match Details Below

Ahead of two huge home matches Peacehaven at last got their first domestic League win since August. With the visit of the Albion and a huge FA Vase tie to come this week this was the lowest profile match, but in the long term perhaps the most important.

If Peacehaven are to maintain their promotion chances they simply cannot afford many more slip ups, and this is exactly the sort of match they have to win. Their victory was rather more comfortable than the scoreline suggests, with Chichester's late comeback coming too late to threaten the result, and there was no disguising the relief around Piddinghoe Avenue afterwards.

Shaun Saunders had gambled with his starting line up, leaving out the likes of Jake Buss, Carl Dunk and Ashley Rees against a side who arrived bottom of the league.

With the wind swirling around Piddinghoe Avenue the match got off to a scrappy start, with Peacehaven in particular struggling to adapt to the conditions. They made a number of individual errors early on, but the visitors showed little sign of

being able to capitalise on the early uncertainty.

They should however have taken the lead when Bradley Grant got in behind Adam Kneller, but his shot was well saved by Josh Heyburn. Otherwise the first half was a bit of a non event, with a succession of offside flags blunting most of the home sides attacks.

Things livened up a bit in the second half as Peacehaven started to up the pressure on the visitors. Ryan Bradley and Wes Millis had both had chances before the breakthrough was finally made. Rob O'Toole broke clear and fed Bradley whose stabbed shot trundled into the back of the net.

Millis was again denied shortly afterwards, but when O'Toole forced in a second goal after good work from Bradley the result seemed beyond doubt.

Peacehaven then spurned a succession of opportunities to extend their lead, and had to endure a nervous injury time when Grant bundled in a late goal for Chichester, but they escaped unscathed and could turn their thoughts to the impending encounters.
