Match details below
A
misunderstanding meant this game nearly didn't
take place. The fixture was originally scheduled
for Friday evening, but was switched to
Wednesday, then to Thursday, and then, finally,
back to Wednesday !
Confusing to say the least - so
much so in fact that the appointed referee
failed to make an appearance. With kick-off
looming, a phone call discovered that he thought
the match was Thursday, leaving Peacehaven
officials making frantic calls to find someone
to take control of the game at the eleventh
hour, or the game would have been cancelled.
Local referee Gerald Miles was
settling down for an evening infront of the TV
when the call came, but was kind enough to agree
to help out - but Peacehaven were to be left
wishing no one had answered the phone, and the
fixture re-arranged, as they slipped to their
9th League defeat of the season.
Peacehaven had the better of the
early exchanged with Harry Coker firing just
over, and then Billy Pout headed over from a
Charlie Miles cross but, midway through the
first half, disaster struck for the home side.

seemed to pose no threat but
somehow found its way into the far corner - much
to the bemusement of the home contingent.
Peacehaven's build-up play was
patient, but created little in the way of
scoring chances, but as half time approached,
they pressed the self destruct button.
Two minutes from the break a
Lancing corner was headed back across the box to
Murat Aslan who fired in unopposed and, within a
minute, a back-pass rolled past Heyburn to leave
Lunn to roll the ball into an empty net.
Peacehaven now had a mammoth
task ahead of them, but nearly managed to lessen
the deficit very soon after the restart. First
Jack Loraine found himself clear, and his clever
chip landed just wide of the goal, then Fenelon
fired just wide with only Dave East in the away
goal to beat.
With 15 minutes remaining
Peacehaven's flickering hope of gaining anything
from this game was given a boost when Matt
Nuttman's cross found Jack Loraine in front of
goal and he calmly slotted home his first of the
season.
There was then a succession of
half chances for the home side, but Lancing
where happy to sit back and defend their lead -
and Peacehaven were left to ponder their first
half generousity. |
