Peacehaven & T.  1  Crowborough Athletic 1

Sat 10th Dec, 2011.  Sussex County League, Division 1.

  Match Details Below

Peacehaven's promotion chances are rapidly disappearing after they dropped yet more points at home. In what is becoming a depressingly familiar fashion they started well, but were unable to maintain their momentum, and were picked off by uncertain defending in the second half.

They have now won only five of sixteen home matches in all competitions, and have fallen fifteen points behind league leaders Rye, and barring a miracle it is hard to see how such a gap can be made up.

The starting line up was again full of surprises, with Wes Millis back, in central

defence, Bradley Murray making his debut for the club after signing from Burgess Hill and Scott Marshall and Ryan Bradley starting on the bench. Matt Fleming also returned to the starting line up and Rob O'Toole moved up front. Bradley's time on the bench was short however, as an early injury to Ashley Rees brought about his swift introduction to the fray.

Peacehaven had made a purposeful start, and took an early lead when Connor Saunders headed in from Carl Dunk's corner. At that point Peacehaven should have built on their advantage, but not for the first time this season, they were unable to do so. Crowborough started to come back into the match towards the break, and would have drawn level if Dave Adams had found the target with his unchallenged header.

Peacehaven emerged after half time looking very nervous, and started to give the ball away with alarming regularity. Crowborough were snapping into challenges, and the hosts were unable to retain possession, inviting pressure.

The inevitable happened when a defensive mix up saw the visitors draw level. Jake Buss came for a cross, but Tom Wood nipped in ahead of him and steered a header into the net.

There was a sense of resignation around Piddinghoe Avenue as the match drifted away from Peacehaven. They did rally towards the end, and could have gone back in front through Rob O'Toole had Ben Pryor not made a fine save, but there was to be no late drama and the match ended in disappointment.
