Rob O'Toole also out of action,
Ryan Bradley took his place back in the forward
line. Peacehaven
continued from where they had left off at
Chichester, enjoying a lot of possession but not
being able to capitalise. Wes Millis, Chamal
Fenelon and Carl Dunk all had chances to score,
whilst Scott Tipper forced Joe Adams to save
well in Arundel's clearest chance of the first
half.
With half time looming, and
Peacehaven having the upper hand, so the Haven
"injury jinx" was to strike again. This time it
was Carl Dunk limping off to join the growing
casualty list. With their final attack of the
half an apparent hand-ball in the Arundel area
produced a collective appeal for a Peacehaven
penalty, but the claims were waved away and the
half ended goalless.
Arundel seemed to carry a
greater threat after the break, and nearly went
ahead within minutes of the restart when a close
range header was scrambled off the Haven line,
but within minutes the home side were in front.
Scott Tipper controlled the ball outside the
box, and low drive found its way past Adams to
put Arundel ahead.
Wes Millis went close to
levelling soon after, but the game then settled
into a familiar pattern with Peacehaven
dominating possession. Matt Fleming received a
second yellow card 15 minutes from time but even
with the numerical disadvantage Peacehaven still
looked capable of salvaging something from the
game.
Arundel were happy to absorb
the pressure, which can be a dangerous game to
play, and as full time approached, The Tye
thought their patience had paid off when another
defensive handball produced another chorus of
appeals for a Peacehaven penalty. Again, the
pleas where waved away and from the resulting
break Arundel where somewhat ironically awarded
a penalty, and Scott Tipper fired home to put
the game beyond doubt.
Despite the defeat, Shaun
Saunders remained in a positive mood saying "It
just wasn't our day today. We felt we should
have had at least one penalty, and we missed too
many chances again - but we have to move on. The
injury list is horrific with Connor Saunders,
Aaron Gunn, Carl Dunk, Rob O'Toole, Ashley Rees,
Craig Bunch and Clive Snell all sidelined - but
there's still a great spirit in the squad and
we'll come back stronger from this set-back" |
